Microsoft has some ideas.  This is one of the most impressive concept videos I've ever seen.  Take a moment to see if there's something you can think of that they didn't.

If your infrastructure is getting a little old in the tooth, this is a great demo to watch to see what you're missing.

My favourite quote from IBM:

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." - Thomas Watson, Chairman of IBM, 1943

I’m not sure it completely WOW’d me, but it definitely has some perks being that’s it’s completely Windows based.  I just don’t know who’s going to carry around a pen with them at all times so that they can hand write their signature on their emails.  Either way, it’s worth a look.

Often time we see “Locked” files on network drives when working with previous versions of Office.  This is because some other user on the network has that file open, and the changes in older versions were only available to one person at a time.  With Office 2010, a new feature called co-authoring gets around that.  Check out the video below.

Wed, 29 Sep 2010 15:59:10 -0700 The Blackberry Playbook http://blog.beadaptive.ca/the-blackberry-playbook http://blog.beadaptive.ca/the-blackberry-playbook

Image003

With all the recent hype around the Apple iPad, Blackberry doesn’t want to be outdone.  This week they announced the all new Blackberry Playbook, with stunning features that shocked the market.  Almost trash talking Apple with its proclamation of “Flash Friendly” browsing, it boasts even more.  Here are the specs…

  • 7-inch LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch and gesture support
  • BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Dual HD cameras (3 MP front facing, 5 MP rear facing), supports 1080p HD video recording
  • Video playback: 1080p HD Video, H.264, MPEG, DivX, WMV
  • Audio playback: MP3, AAC, WMA
  • HDMI video output
  • Wi-Fi – 802.11 a/b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • Connectors: microHDMI, microUSB, charging contacts
  • Open, flexible application platform with support for WebKit/HTML-5, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR, Adobe Reader, POSIX, OpenGL, Java
  • Ultra-thin and portable:
  • Measures 5.1"x7.6"x0.4" (130mm x 193mm x 10mm)
  • Weighs less than a pound (approximately 0.9 lb or 400g)
  • RIM intends to also offer 3G and 4G models in the future.

In relation to the iPad, the Playbook is a bit smaller, lighter, but has better hardware.  With a true HD screen, Multi-processor, and USB/HDMI connections, it seems to speak to all of the things iPad users felt was lacking from their device at launch. That’s good, because being 9 months behind the market usually means your product is DOR (Dead on release) in the tech field.

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for…  The REVEAL!

The PlayBook is scheduled into retail channels for early 2011, with developers getting access next month.

4 years into our business we are one of a handful of Dell Server Certified Partners in BC and now we’re Microsoft Gold Certified Partners as well.  With most of our clients so closely tied to Microsoft for their core infrastructure, it’s important that we foster an extremely close relationship with Redmond.  This relationship allows us to better serve our clients by being better able to support their core products.

Mon, 09 Aug 2010 17:46:21 -0700 Windows 7 Sales & Features http://blog.beadaptive.ca/windows-7-sales-features http://blog.beadaptive.ca/windows-7-sales-features Microsoft will tell just about anyone that's willing to listen that Windows 7 is the fastest selling operating system in it's history with a mind-boggling 10 licenses sold every second since release.  Those numbers are supported by a number of features that users have reported being pretty enamored with.

1.  Windows Search.  Introduced in Vista, and refined in 7, Windows Search is a key feature of the new OS.

Start_search

Start typing into the Start menu search box—and you'll instantly see a list of relevant documents, pictures, music, and e-mail on your PC. Results are now grouped by category and contain highlighted keywords and text snippets to make them easier to scan.

2.  Snap (My personal favorite).

Snap2

Snap is a quick (and fun) new way to resize open windows, simply by dragging them to the edges of your screen. Depending on which edge you choose—top or bottom, left or right—the window will expand vertically, fill the screen, or you can even position windows side by side. Snap makes reading, organizing, and comparing windows a...well, you get the picture.

3.  Live Taskbar Previews

With Windows 7, you can point to a taskbar icon to see actual images of all of your open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over the image to preview the window full-screen. Click on the full screen image, and you can start working with it immediately. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews—a big time saver.

4.  Pin

Pin_to_taskbar

In Windows 7, you can use pinning to make your PC work even more the way you want. One big improvement is the ability to control where your programs appear on your taskbar. Always want your web browser right next to the start button? Drag the icon where you want it, and it'll stay there till you move it. You can also pin your program icon to the taskbar, so it's there all the time. You can even pin specific documents and web sites to Jump Lists on your taskbar.
